Two weeks ago, I walked to an uptown H&M to investigate how New Yorkers were handling the warmer weather. The street styles I witnessed were wide-ranging, a sign that most girls are still making sense of their summer wardrobes. Here are a few of the photos that I snapped:
Aurelie
Aurelie, a French tourist, sports a bright ensemble. I love her cropped jacket, patterned scarf, and subtly red lipstick. I also like the way her textured purse contrasts with the simplicity of her dress.
Sara
Sara models a darker look for this season: indigo skinny jeans, heavy sneakers and a short-sleeve plaid button-up. She carries a cobalt blue bag for a pop of color, which, she’ll be happy to learn, also perfectly matches the palette for next fall.
Jenelle
Jenelle wears a charcoal ¾-sleeve smock dress with tights, pearl earrings, and a pair of classic plastic-frame Ray Bans. I think she looks pulled together and…fresh. Maybe it’s her side-swept bangs. Or the French manicure.
Hyatt
Hyatt wears a cropped and buttoned jacket, denim skinnies in a trendy light wash, a pink scarf, and matching ballet flats. I love the single braid in her hair and the eternally fashionable summer accessory in her hand— iced tea.
Karin
Karin was my favorite photo subject. Here, she wears dark skinny jeans, a pinstriped tunic belted at the waist, and heeled sandals. Like other girls photographed earlier, she wears pearl earrings and a braid in her hair, but Karin still comes across as having a unique style. She has cinched her top with what looks like a rope or ribbon, and her embroidered bag is amazing. In my opinion, she’s effectively interpreted this summer’s hippy-chic trend.
